The Empire State Building Opened Its Doors on May 1, 1931
On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building, located in New York City, officially opened its doors. The Empire State Building was built during the Great Depression and only took one year and 45 days to build. At the time it was built, it was the tallest skyscraper in the world reaching 1,454 feet, which included the 102 floors and the lightning rod.
This building is one of the most recognizable architectural feats built in the distinctive art deco style. For this reason, it’s also a popular subject of popular art prints. Artists such as Henri Silberman and Christopher Bliss photographed this famous building.
